  • The Look: It mimics the technique of Batik or Wax Resist. The white lines appear to be places where masking fluid or wax was applied before painting, preventing the watercolor/acrylic from adhering.

  • Palette: Retro Modern. Deep Plum/Eggplant, Mustard Yellow, Sage Green, and crisp White.

  • Key Feature: Negative Definition. The shapes are defined not by black outlines, but by white “gaps” or negative space lines that separate the color blocks.

Description

  • Visual Dispersion (The Resist): The white lines represent “Inhibited Dispersion.” This is the opposite of a bleed. A physical barrier (like wax) stopped the liquid pigment from dispersing into that space, creating clean, organic white channels.

  • Texture Dispersion (Scumbling): Look at the large yellow area. It shows “Scumbled Dispersion.” The paint was applied with a dry brush over a textured surface, causing the pigment to catch on the “hills” of the paper and miss the “valleys.” This creates a sparkly, broken texture that adds depth.

  • Layer Dispersion: The botanical elements (dark plum branches) are painted over the background layers with Low Dispersion (high opacity), sitting clearly on top of the scumbled yellow texture.
